Couples therapy
Your relationship doesn't have to be falling apart to deserve attention.
Maybe you're stuck having the same arguments over and over. Maybe you communicate constantly, but somehow still aren’t speaking the same language. Maybe you feel more like roommates than romantic partners. Maybe something happened that shook your foundation, and you're not sure how to rebuild trust. Or maybe, things are actually pretty good, but you want to strengthen your relationship before small issues become big problems.
I work best with motivated couples who are ready to do the work – not looking for someone to referee fights or assign blame, but who genuinely want to understand each other better and break old patterns.
If this sounds like you, we should talk. Schedule your free consultation call to see if we’re a good fit.
What We’ll Work On
Communication difficulties (frequent arguments, conflict avoidance, or shutting down)
Emotional and intimate connection
Navigating life transitions and stressors as a couple (parenthood, empty nesters, illness, retirement)
Identifying values as a couple and building a life together that works for each partner
Relationship betrayals (emotional or sexual affairs, major secrets)
Premarital counseling from a non-religious lens
Even deciding to divorce respectfully (if that’s where you’re headed)
My Approach
I'm certified in Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), an evidence-based treatment developed by Drs. Andrew Christensen and Neil Jacobson. I was trained directly by Dr. Christensen in 2018 and received my certification in 2019. IBCT helps couples make meaningful changes while also increasing emotional understanding and acceptance of one another. Research shows that most couples who complete IBCT stay together and report significant increases in relationship satisfaction.
What Working Together Looks Like
Treatment Phase (12-24 sessions): If you decide to move forward, we'll work on breaking your patterns and building new skills. Sessions are typically weekly at first, then spaced out (every other week or monthly) as you make progress. The typical course of couples therapy is 6-12 months.
Evaluation Phase (4 sessions): We'll start with an initial session together to understand what brings you to therapy and get a brief relationship history. Then I'll meet with each partner individually to learn more about your personal history, perspectives, and concerns. In the final evaluation session, I'll share what I've learned about your relationship patterns and how therapy can help.
